What are Time and Attendance Systems?

Time and attendance systems are so much more than just tracking an employee clocking in and out. These systems can collect a whole host of useful data to increase productivity and efficiency. Time and attendance systems can track breaks, attendance, annual leave, compassionate leave and unique circumstances.

This gives you the ability to plan easily and ahead of time, while providing your employees with access to their schedules. You can also be sure that you’re staying compliant with the Working Time Directive (WTD). Time and attendance software can also deal with complex schedules and hours making it easier for you to manage casual workers or unusual shift patterns.

How much will a time and attendance system cost?

It can be hard to provide a real estimation as each business is unique and prices tend to be bespoke. A clocking-in machine with RFID (wireless) and fingerprint sensors will cost between £230 –  £530. Prices can vary on the numbers of users and the number of time logs that can be stored. This price tends to include the operating software.

A standalone copy of the software is around £60 with a 1 hour installation support (by phone) costing around £100. Additional costs will be added for items such as badges and key fobs.

Do I need a time and attendance system for my small business?

If you work in a brick and mortar location, your business can benefit from a T&A system no matter how many employees you have. T&A systems give you the info you need to give your employees the recognition they deserve, make it simpler for you to arrange schedules and adjust pay accurately. T&A systems are designed to grow with your business so even if you only have a handful of employees, your system will be able to adjust to hiring more employees or complex shift patterns.
